Building Better Businesses in Brampton: Introducing B Corp

Global Entrepreneurship Week is coming up and so on November 18 at 6:30 pm, local entrepreneurs are hosting a free event for businesses and aspiring social entrepreneurs in Brampton.

Speakers from B Corp Canada (Aaron Emery, MaRS Centre for Impact Investing) and successful B Corp Certified businesses from the GTA will share their experience. Local entrepreneur T by Daniel will be sampling Fair Trade Tea. Brampton’s first Co-Working space, LAB B, will share their current Crowdfunding campaign.

The event is focused on networking and knowledge. One goal is to bring B Corp to Brampton, joining the 100 companies in Canada so far with the certification. It will be hosted at T by Daniel on Main St.

What are B Corps?

B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk. B Corps are certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Today, there is a growing community of more than 1,000 Certified B Corps from 33 countries and over 60 industries working together toward 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business. There are100 Canadian B Corps, which represent over 10% of the 910 global B Corps across 60 industries in 29 countries. Canadian B Corps are currently the largest cluster outside of the United States.

This completely free event is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, and is presented jointly by Daniel Francavilla of Now Creative Group, Joyanne Howell of Open Mind Marketing, and Ryan O’Neil Knight of Detailing Knights (Certified B Corp).
